Oakland, CA -- Today, the Sierra Club and Sierra Club Iowa issued a statement in support of our colleague Heather Pearson.
Sierra Club President Loren Blackford and Sierra Club Iowa Chapter Director Pam Mackey-Taylor released the following joint statement:
"It is our duty to make our progressive movement spaces as safe as possible in order to achieve our missions in a just and equitable way, and Sierra Club takes this role very seriously. Sierra Club strongly condemns sexual violence and harassment and we affirm an individual’s right to share their experience however they choose. We are deeply troubled and disturbed by our colleague Heather Pearson’s descriptions of abuse by Ed Fallon, director of Bold Iowa. To ensure the safety and well-being of our staff and volunteers in the wake of allegations of inappropriate conduct, Sierra Club severed ties of engagement with Mr. Fallon. Heather is our colleague and our partner in fighting for a more equitable, inclusive, and just world. She deserves to be treated with respect.”
