WASHINGTON, D.C.-- The Senate today passed an emergency aid package as part of a response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune issued the following statement.
“Today’s relief package provides urgently needed aid directly to workers and families nationwide. As our leaders now turn their attention to economic stimulus, they must continue to put the health, safety and well-being of people at the forefront of the national response.
“Any major economic stimulus package must provide direct financial assistance to workers and families, expand safeguards like paid sick leave, and focus on those facing the greatest economic uncertainty. Such a package should prioritize economic investments in a way that helps sustain the clean energy economy rather than bailing out fossil fuel corporations. We urge Congress to act now for a sustainable future.”
