The Sierra Club applauds Mississippi Public Service Commissioners Brent Bailey, Dane Maxwell, and Brandon Presley for their leadership in convening an emergency meeting on Sunday, March 15, and voting to approve an order suspending utility disconnections for Mississippi residents during this time of hardship and uncertainty from COVID-19.

Louie Miller, State Director of the Mississippi Chapter Sierra Club, released the following statement:

“As this public health crisis deepens, meeting the basic health and safety needs of all Mississippians must take precedent. The actions taken yesterday by MPSC Commissioners demonstrate what decisive leadership looks like. We hope other regulatory bodies will follow their example by ensuring utility companies prioritize the well-being of families over profits.”
