Washington, DC-- Today, the Hill reported that Interior Secretary Bernhardt will move forward a contested proposal to eliminate requirements for the agency to consider science on public health, the environment and other critical issues in decision-making. The rollback comes after a similar change by Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Wheeler focused on rolling back public health considerations at EPA.

In response, Lena Moffitt, Director of the Sierra Club’s Our Wild America campaign, released the following statement:

“The Trump administration is clearing the way for a corporate buyout of our environmental agencies tasked to protect lands, water and wildlife. Failure to consider sound science in the face of our biggest environmental challenges is detrimental to our communities and only boosts destructive development . It is clear Bernhardt’s loyalties are with polluters, not the public. We deserve leaders who will prioritize our health, environment and future. The Sierra Club will continue to hold this administration accountable for these senseless decisions.”
