ALBANY, NY -- Energy giant Williams confirmed today that they are cancelling the 125-mile fracked gas Constitution Pipeline. The announcement reinforces the emerging view that fracked gas projects are unnecessary and unwise investments.
In response, the Director of the Sierra Club’s Beyond Dirty Fuels Campaign, Kelly Martin, released the following statement:
"We are thrilled to see the fracked gas Constitution Pipeline has finally been cancelled. As people across New York and Pennsylvania have said all along, there was no need for this dirty, dangerous project. Had Williams listened to the impacted communities eight years ago, they could have invested hundreds of millions of dollars in clean, renewable energy sources, instead of wasting it on a fracked gas pipeline that they’ve now abandoned.
“While this nightmare may now be over, people along its proposed 125-mile path, like the Holleran family, have already been irreparably harmed. Fracked gas and the pipelines used to transport it threaten our health, climate, and communities and there are a lot of Pennyslvanians and New Yorkers who will breathe a little easier knowing this project is dead.”
