DETROIT, MI – Yesterday, General Motors unveiled a new generation of gas guzzling SUVs for US consumers. This latest announcement from GM is another example of how the automaker’s talk about sustainability rings hollow, especially in the wake of its decision to side with the Trump administration in court against clean cars and climate action.

The Sierra Club recently released the Rev Up Electric Vehicles report -the first-ever nationwide survey of the electric vehicle consumer shopping experience. It shows that automakers and auto dealers are failing to provide EV inventory on their lots, failing to adequately train their salespeople about EVs, and even sometimes failing to charge the vehicles so they are available for test drives.

In response, Andrew Linhardt, Deputy Advocacy Director of the Sierra Club’s Clean Transportation for All campaign, released the following statement:

“Instead of truly investing in an electric future that will meet critical climate goals, General Motors is doubling down on selling larger, gas-guzzling, internal combustion engine vehicles while paying mere lip service to its commitment to electric vehicles. General Motors tried to kill the electric vehicle once - we won’t stand by idly as the automaker attempts to do it again.”
