Sierra Club Slams Trump’s Latest Plan to Undermine Science and Public Health
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Late yesterday, the New York Times reported that former coal lobbyist Andrew Wheeler is preparing to significantly limit the scientific and medical research that the government can use as it sets public health safeguards.
In response, Liz Perera, Climate Policy Director at the Sierra Club, released the following study:
“With this outrageous attack on basic science and public health protection policy, Andrew Wheeler might as well move his offices into a coal company’s boardroom. Wheeler is trying to block independent, peer reviewed health studies that have protected our families for generations from dictating safeguards and rules, all so he can let polluters spew their noxious waste into our air and water with impunity.
“Wheeler’s blatantly contrived justification for ignoring decades worth of scientific consensus is as ridiculous as it is dangerous. We will use every tool in the toolbox to put a stop to this attack on science that just lets industry pollute more. This is an attack on public health, and on communities across the country.”
