Washington, DC — La Cámara de Representantes concluyó ayer las audiencias públicas sobre el enjuiciamiento político de Donald Trump.
Como la mayor organización ambiental de base del país, con millones de miembros y seguidores, el Sierra Club es una pieza clave de la sociedad civil de Estados Unidos y un bastión de protección ambiental y salvaguarda de la democracia estadounidense. El Sierra Club reconoce que un gobierno funcional y el acceso democrático a ese gobierno son la única manera de lograr su misión de proteger el aire, agua y terrenos en un clima cambiante para resguardar a las comunidades.
Como respuesta, el director ejecutivo del Sierra Club, Michael Brune, emitió la siguiente declaración:
“Las audiencias de enjuiciamiento de la Cámara de Representantes han dejado abundantemente claro que Donald Trump ha abusado del poder de la presidencia y operado fuera de la ley. Si las normas democráticas y la ley no significan nada, entonces las herramientas legales y democráticas que usamos para proteger el aire, agua y clima podrían hacerse insignificantes. Trump ha amenazado la integridad de las leyes que todos obedecemos, socavando los principios básicos de nuestra democracia e ignorando el juramento presidencial. Los actos corruptos de Donald Trump han quedado impunes durante demasiado tiempo, pero el Congreso tiene que cumplir con sus obligaciones constitucionales, y enjuiciarlo y expulsarlo de su puesto”.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Yesterday, the House of Representatives wrapped up this week’s public hearings on the impeachment inquiry of Donald Trump.
As the nation’s largest grassroots environmental advocacy organization, with millions of members and supporters nationwide, the Sierra Club is a key part of U.S. civil society and a bastion for both environmental protection and safeguarding American democracy. The Sierra Club recognizes that a functioning government and democratic access to that government is the only way to achieve its mission of protecting our air, water and lands in a changing climate to protect our communities.
In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:
"The House of Representatives impeachment hearing has made it abundantly clear that Donald Trump has abused the power of the presidency and operated outside of the law. If our democratic norms and the law mean nothing, then the legal and democratic tools we use to protect clean air and water, public lands, and a safe climate could become meaningless. Trump has threatened the integrity of laws we all abide by, undermining the core principles of our democracy, and ignoring the presidential oath of office. Donald Trump's corrupt acts have gone unchecked for too long, but Congress must uphold its Constitutional obligations and impeach and remove him from office.”
