WHAT: Press conference on mutual opposition to BLM plans that allow drilling in Mesquite and Southern Nevada water basins. This press conference comes on the heels of several letters of protest and government resolutions that have been submitted to the BLM against the proposed oil and gas lease sale.
WHEN: Friday, November 8th at 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. PST
WHERE: Mesquite City Hall 10 E Mesquite Blvd, Mesquite, NV 89027
Background:
On November 12th 2019, the Nevada BLM will hold a lease sale for 574,075 acres of land in the Ely District. Over 100,000 of those acres are in the East Mormon Mountains and the Tule Desert. The land is North of Mesquite in the water basin where the surface and subterranean water flows through into Lake Mead through the Virgin River, Muddy River and the Meadow Valley Wash. The leasing of these lands for oil and gas development threatens the waters that Southern Nevada communities rely on-- including the city of Mesquite, Henderson, Las Vegas, the Moapa Band of Paiutes and Clark County.
