WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today marks 47 years since the Clean Water Act was passed into law. Since then, water quality in the United States has improved remarkably. The number of healthy waterways has doubled, providing clean water for drinking, recreation and wildlife. Like other bedrock environmental safeguards, the Clean Water Act has come under attack recently as the Trump administration has sought to make it harder for states to protect local waterways.
In response Dalal Aboulhosn, Sierra Club deputy legislative director issued the following statement.
“The need for clean water is a fact that just can’t be denied, no matter how much the Trump administration tries to spin it. The free pass Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency has given polluters to contaminate groundwater, destroy streams and wetlands, and put our water at risk comes at significant cost to the rest of us.
“Clean water is fundamental for healthy families, healthy communities and healthy economies. It’s time for Congress to speak up for clean water by demanding the Trump administration stop its Clean Water Act rollbacks.”
