Monaca, PA -- In a speech today in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, Donald Trump touted his administration’s support for corporate polluters and efforts to “break up” bedrock environmental protections like the Clean Water Act.
Trump was in Pennsylvania to tour the site of a Shell petrochemical plant being constructed along the Ohio River. The proposed petrochemical hub has faced significant opposition from local communities because of the threat of air and water pollution.
In his remarks, Trump also repeated false attacks on clean energy, ignoring the fact that the wind and solar industries employ more than 6,000 Pennsylvanians.
In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:
“Americans are tired of hearing Donald Trump celebrate his efforts to let the fossil fuel industry pollute their air and drinking water. Trump’s backwards, pro-polluter agenda cannot cover up the fact that clean energy is already creating thousands of good jobs across Appalachia. Instead of supporting this growing industry, all Trump is offering communities are lies and a plan to prop up corporate polluters.”
