WASHINGTON, D.C. -- This week, it was reported that Donald Trump would not only take $271 million in federal funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency as a hurricane bears down on the United States to fund immigrant detention centers, but that he would offer pardons to anyone in his Administration who helps him break the law to fund his dangerous border wall. Trump reportedly ordered private land seizures and a violation of environmental laws as well.
In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:
"Donald Trump will apparently break any law, sink to the lowest of lows, and even put the people he claims to be protecting at actual risk in his desperate effort to push an agenda of hate and division. As a dangerous hurricane approaches the United States, Trump is ripping funds away from emergency relief to spend them on tearing apart the families seeking refuge in this country, like generations before them have been able to. Trump should be focusing on real emergencies instead of his hateful and dangerous fake emergency."
