WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the U.S. Senate advanced a budget deal that avoids the deep cuts to programs that safeguard public health, clean air, and clean water proposed in the Trump Administration budget.

In response, Sierra Club Deputy Legislative Director Kirin Kennedy released the following statement:

“The Sierra Club applauds Democratic leadership in Congress for fighting for a Bipartisan Budget Act that avoids the damaging cuts of sequestration and ensures the programs that protect our air, our water, our lands, and our climate can do their job. Without this action, deep cuts to vital agencies would devastate life-saving initiatives that safeguard the health of our environment and our communities, hitting the most vulnerable people in our country the hardest. The Trump Administration has tirelessly tried to shred any program that protects the public and the planet just to benefit polluters, and this budget deal sends a strong message that those cuts are unacceptable.”
