WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Trump administration today is expected to publish new conservation plans for the endangered greater sage grouse. The revised plans, which will apply to lands managed by the Forest Service, follow rollbacks adopted by the Interior Department earlier this year. Together the plans will undermine sage grouse conservation efforts on millions of acres of public land across western states, and set back carefully-crafted plans years in the making.
Emily Lande, senior campaign representative for Sierra Club’s Our Wild America campaign issued the following statement.
“The bottom line is that rollbacks for the protection of sage grouse will allow the oil and gas industry to disrupt and destroy the habitat of the rapidly-declining species. At a time when scientists are issuing dire warnings of mass extinction and a worsening climate crisis, public lands must be managed as a part of the solution, not ground zero for unchecked climate pollution. We cannot afford for the Trump administration to hand lands over to destructive industries with no regard for wildlife or our climate.”
