La Renuncia del Jefe de la Patrulla Aduanera y Fronteriza Delata Necesidad de Nueva Visión en la Frontera

Washington, DC — Tras la cobertura de las inhumanas condiciones en los campos de detención y la cada vez mayor crueldad de la administración Trump hacia los inmigrantes en la frontera con México, el jefe de la Patrulla Aduanera y Fronteriza, John Sanders, ha dimitido hoy.

Sanders supervisó a una agencia en constante crítica por sus actos en la frontera — incluyendo no ofrecer productos de higiene básica a los niños, los asesinatos de residentes de la frontera por parte de agentes fronterizos y los controvertidos arrestos de voluntarios humanitarios por ofrecer agua a los inmigrantes.

Como respuesta, el director ejecutivo del Sierra Club, Michael Brune, emitió la siguiente declaración:

“Los miembros y voluntarios del Sierra Club que trabajan a lo largo de la frontera han presenciado la creciente e impune crueldad de la Agencia Aduanera y de Protección Fronteriza, y el inmenso e incalculable daño que ha causado a las comunidades fronterizas. Estas comunidades han sido objeto del racismo de los agentes, de los daños causados por la construcción de muro y de la injustificable militarización de los lugares que ellos consideran su hogar. El mandato de John Sanders es simbólico del descontrol y caos que reina en su agencia bajo la administración Trump.

“Este es un momento crucial y subraya la necesidad de que continúe la presión pública para que la administración Trump cambie rumbo en su agenda anti inmigrante, pare su trato inhumano de familias inmigrantes y abandone su peligrosa idea de construir el muro. El país y el mundo observan y exigen justicia para las comunidades fronterizas y los inmigrantes”.

Sierra Club Statement: Customs and Border Patrol Chief Resignation Signals Need for New Vision on the Border
Call to stop cruelty toward migrants, border militarization and wall

Washington, DC-- Today, following coverage of inhumane conditions in detention camps and the increasingly cruel practices of the Trump administration toward migrants on the US-Mexico border, Trump’s Acting Customs and Border Patrol Chief John Sanders has resigned.

Sanders oversaw an agency constantly under fire for their practices on the border-- including the failure to provide basic hygiene products to children, killings of border community residents by agents and controversial arrests of humanitarian volunteers for providing water to migrants.

In response, Michael Brune, Executive Director of the Sierra Club released the following statement:

“Sierra Club members and volunteers working and living along the border have seen first-hand the growing and unchecked cruelty of the Trump administration’s Customs and Border Protection Agency and the immense and incalculable damage it has inflicted on border communities. Border communities have experienced racist targeting by agents, damage from border wall construction and unjustified militarization in the places they call home. Chief John Sander’s reign is symbolic of how out-of-control and problematic this agency has become under the Trump administration.

“This is a critical moment and stresses the need for continued public pressure in calling the Trump administration to reverse its course on this anti-immigrant agenda, stop its inhumane treatment of migrant families, and abandon its dangerous push for a border wall. The nation and  the world are watching and demanding justice for border communities and migrants.”
