Oakland, CA -- Today, with the latest release of an ambitious climate plan from a Democratic candidate, Governor Jay Inslee released a “Freedom from Fossil Fuels” plan that includes an end to fossil fuel subsidies, a ban on federal fossil fuel leasing, a phase out of fossil fuel production, and significant investments in supporting fossil fuel workers.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:

“The only way to tackle the climate crisis is with a comprehensive plan that approaches the problem from every angle and seizes every opportunity to ensure our economy works for everyone. Jay Inslee’s bold proposals do just that, including this visionary effort to stop propping up the fossil fuel industry and start protecting the health of communities sickened by drilling and extraction every day. The climate proposals from Democratic candidates so far are impressive, and with ambitious additions like this plan from Inslee, we expect this pattern to continue in the weeks and months to come.”
