WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, BP released a report showing global carbon emissions increasing 2 percent over the last year, with U.S. energy consumption increasing 3.5 percent. Donald Trump and EPA administrator Andrew Wheeler have consistently touted U.S. emissions falling.

This summer the Trump administration is expected to finalize its rollback of the Clean Power Plan and the clean car standards, the United State’s two biggest defenses against climate pollution.

In response, Sierra Club Global Climate Policy Director John Coequyt released the following statement:

"Donald Trump and Andrew Wheeler have ignored every warning about the dire threat climate change poses to our nation -- with the latest climate report coming from their friends in the fossil fuel industry, perhaps they’ll listen. The American public will not be greenhouse gaslit as the Trump administration works tirelessly to rollback lifesaving climate protections.”
