El Senado Tiene Que Rechazar la Peligrosa Nominación de Wheeler a la EPA

Washington, DC — La Comisión de Medio Ambiente y Obras Públicas del Senado aprobó hoy la nominación de Andrew Wheeler como administrador de la Agencia de Protección Ambiental (EPA). En sus primeros 100 días como administrador interino de la EPA, Andrew Wheeler tomó un promedio de una decisión cada tres días en perjuicio de la salud pública y el medio ambiente.
 
Usando documentos obtenidos por el Sierra Club vía la Ley de Libertad de Información, CNN y Reuters informaron que Wheeler prefiere sustancialmente reunirse con miembros de la industria, tras haber asistido a más de 50 reuniones con compañías o grupos industriales que regula la EPA entre abril y agosto del año pasado. Estas entidades incluyen Darling Ingredients, una compañía para la que Wheeler fue cabildero.
 
Como respuesta, el director ejecutivo del Sierra Club, Michael Brune, emitió la siguiente declaración:
 
“Wheeler es peor que un lobo en piel de oveja, es un cabildero carbonero haciéndose pasar por administrador de la EPA. La Comisión de Medio Ambiente y Obras Públicas del Senado debería haber rechazado su nominación unánimemente en rechazo de un cabildero de la industria de combustibles fósiles que se ha pasado su carrera socavando las salvaguardas que protegen el aire y el agua de todos.
 
“Mientras su nominación se traslada al pleno del Senado, urgimos a los senadores a que consideren las protecciones del agua y aire de sus votantes —incluyendo las salvaguardas contra el tóxico mercurio y las emisiones de vehículos— y a que rechacen esta peligrosa nominación”.

Sierra Club: Senate Must Reject Dangerous Wheeler Nomination

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee voted to advance the nomination of Acting Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Andrew Wheeler to be EPA Administrator. In his first 100 days as Acting EPA Administrator, Andrew Wheeler took numerous actions to harm public health and the environment on average every three days.
 
Using documents produced by a recent Sierra Club FOIA request CNN and Reuters reported that Wheeler is heavily preferring meetings with industry, attending more than 50 meetings with companies or industry groups the EPA regulates between April and August of last year, including Darling Ingredients, a company he previously lobbied for.  
 
In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:  
 
"Andrew Wheeler is worse than a wolf in sheep’s clothing, he’s a coal lobbyist masquerading as the EPA Administrator. The Senate Environment and Public Works Committee should have voted unanimously to reject the nomination of a fossil fuel lobbyist who has spent his career undermining the vital safeguards that keep our air and water clean.
 
"As his nomination moves to the Senate floor, we urge Senators to consider the clean air and water protections their constituents rely on, among them safeguards from toxic mercury, PFAS pollution, and emissions from cars and trucks, and vote no on this dangerous nomination.”
