WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the Senate voted 53-46 along party lines to confirm Neomi Rao to the D.C. Circuit Court. Rao has been widely-criticized for her extreme and dangerous views on climate, sexual assault, LGBTQ rights, and civil rights. Rao is Trump’s 36th judge confirmed to appeals courts.
In response, Sierra Club Legal Director Pat Gallagher released the following statement:
“Senate Republicans and Donald Trump forcing Neomi Rao through to serve on the second highest court in the country threatens Americans’ freedom, safety, and rights. Our courts are a critical line of defense for our democracy, and Rao’s extreme record causes serious concerns about her ability to impartially and fairly judge cases that will impact climate action, sexual assault survivors, and racial equity.”
