Washington, DC -- This morning, the DC Circuit Court of Appeals ruled against the Sierra Club in its legal challenge of the Department of Energy’s approval of exports of Liquefied Natural Gas from the Cove Point, Sabine Pass and Corpus Christi LNG terminals.

Sierra Club Staff Attorney Nathan Matthews issued the following statement in response:

“Common sense dictates, and even the Department of Energy agrees, that expanding exports of fracked gas would drive an increase in fracking and the air and water pollution that comes with it. DOE is tasked with determining if proposed exports are in the public interest, and it is disappointing that the court has declined to hold the agency accountable for doing a real analysis that takes the costs for American communities into account. We will continue to work to protect communities from the threats of fracked gas pollution.”
