WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the EPA released an auto trends report that emphasized the importance of the clean car standards in increasing fuel efficiency. The report comes as the EPA, along with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, prepare to finalize their rollback of Obama-era greenhouse gas and corporate average fuel economy (CAFE) standards for light-duty vehicles this spring.

In response, Andrew Linhardt, Deputy Advocacy Director for Sierra Club's Clean Transportation for All campaign, released the following statement:

"The auto trends report proves the clean car standards are working, but the auto industry still has a lot of work to do to reduce carbon pollution from gas-guzzling vehicles and increase fuel efficiency for American consumers. Automakers like Ford and GM don’t deserve kudos for progress when they’ve been lobbying the Trump administration to roll back common-sense standards that protect our communities and prevent further climate disruption."
