Today, Representative Rob Bishop, the ranking member of the House Natural Resources Committee, said the bold ideas in the Green New Deal to tackle the climate crisis and inequity are “tantamount to genocide” to rural citizens. This comes as Washington Republicans, led by Donald Trump, continue their absurd and dangerous rhetoric on climate change and climate action.

In response, Sierra Club Legislative Director Melinda Pierce issued the following statement:

“Congressional Republicans’ abhorrent, extremist rhetoric is completely unacceptable. Their continued climate denial and refusal to take action further proves that when faced with the opportunity to actually tackle the climate crisis and inequity, Congressional Republicans will always resort to dangerous, bombastic language to avoid doing their jobs.”
