WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Speaker Nancy Pelosi named eight House Democrats to sit on the  House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, chaired by Representative Kathy Castor. The list includes Reps. Donald McEachin, Joe Neguse, Suzanne Bonamici, Julia Brownley, Mike Levin, Ben Ray Lujan, Jared Huffman, and Sean Casten.

In response, Sierra Club Legislative Director Melinda Pierce released the following statement:

“The Sierra Club welcomes the addition of this team of climate champions to the Select Committee. We look forward to the important work they will do to tackle the devastating effects of the climate crisis and lift up solutions. Having worked closely with Representative Castor in her efforts to transition her community beyond dirty coal, we are confident she is a leader who will ensure this committee seizes the momentum for change and elevates the calls of the public for urgent, serious action. Coupled with the energy surrounding proposals introduced in the House -- from the Green New Deal resolution introduced today to efforts to bolster our Paris commitments and more -- this committee will play a part in ensuring voters get the real climate progress they demanded when they went to the polls in November. We can only hope the Congressional Republicans named to this Select Committee act with the same seriousness and urgency that we know the Democrats named today will.”
