WASHINGTON, D.C. -- This morning, ahead of the Senate’s confirmation vote of Acting EPA administrator Andrew Wheeler, Sierra Club began running Facebook ads targeted towards Senator Gardner in Colorado, Senator Tillis in North Carolina, Senator Toomey in Pennsylvania, Senator Collins in Maine, and Senator Alexander in Tennessee urging them to vote no on Wheeler’s confirmation.
The ads, which feature a juxtaposed image of a pristine pond and a dirty power plant, are focused on Wheeler’s rollback of the Mercury and Air Toxics Standards (MATS) and direct viewers to an action alert to contact their senator to oppose Wheeler.
In response, Sierra Club Federal Policy Director Melinda Pierce released the following statement:
"Andrew Wheeler turned his back on his responsibility to protect the health and safety of American families, just so he can bend the demands of big polluters. With Wheeler leading the EPA we’ll see more rollbacks of vital safeguards, more pollution, more asthma attacks, and more hospital stays. Any Senator who votes for Andrew Wheeler is voting to endanger their constituents with toxic mercury, PFAS contamination, and dangerous carbon pollution.”
