SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA - On January 9, Springfield Township passed a resolution establishing goals of transitioning to 100 percent clean, renewable electricity by 2035, and 100 percent renewable energy for heat and transportation by 2050. The Springfield Township Board of Commissioners approved the full resolution  here.

Springfield Township joins six other municipalities in southeastern Pennsylvania that are committed to transitioning to 100 percent clean, renewable energy: Downingtown, Kennett Township, Phoenixville, West Chester, East Bradford Township, and Haverford. Springfield Township is the first community in Montgomery County to establish this goal. Together, these communities lead the state in setting a vision for a fossil fuel-free future.

"I am proud that Springfield has signed on to the Ready for 100 resolution. Our unanimous support of this resolution shows the Board's commitment to responsible stewardship of our planet. We are dedicated to giving our grandchildren a clean, healthy and safe planet. As the first municipality in Montgomery County to pass an RF100 ordinance, we are hopeful that many more will soon follow,” said Jeff Harbison, President of the Springfield Township Board of Commissioners.

Bridgeport Borough also recently set its own goals to address climate change by adopting more renewables, demonstrating growing momentum in Montgomery County for clean energy.

"Springfield and Bridgeport have taken the first step -- acknowledging the need and vision for a future based on clean renewable energy. Now we need to work together to develop regional energy transition plans and then execute those plans, for the sake of our grandchildren,” said Bill Sabey, volunteer leader with the Ready For 100/Montgomery County team.

Across the United States, 106 towns and cities have committed to 100 percent clean, renewable energy like wind and solar.
