WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Donald Trump said he would allow the government shutdown to continue for years. The shutdown has 800,000 people going without pay, and has put our National Parks into a state of disarray.
In response, Sierra Club Legislative Director Melinda Pierce released the following statement:
“The livelihoods of the American people are clearly just another brick in the wall for Donald Trump as he will happily let this shutdown go on for ‘years,’ stopping hundreds of thousands of federal workers and contractors from receiving a paycheck and leaving our air, water, and public lands without protection. Trump and Senate Republicans must get out of the way and let the country get back to work by passing a clean funding package without funding for Trump’s border wall boondoggle immediately.”
