Washington, DC-- Today, despite the Senate agreeing on a clean funding package, Donald Trump and GOP members of the House are confirming they will shut down the government if they do not receive billions of dollars for a border wall.
In response, Dan Millis, Grand Canyon Chapter Borderlands Program Manager released the following statement:
“Congress can’t allow Trump to shut down the government over his costly, unpopular and dangerous border wall. The American people have spoken and the message is clear: No border wall, no border fence, no border slats and no shutdown.
“Border communities deserve dignity and much-needed funding for schools, health care and infrastructure - not expensive and insulting walls cutting through our backyards and local parks. Immigrants and asylum-seekers deserve a just path to citizenship and access to legal protections under the law. Sierra Club calls on Trump and his GOP allies to end this circus and keep the government open by passing a clean funding package.”
