Washington, DC -- Today, Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue joined embattled Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke in discussing the Farm Bill and making claims about funding to combat wildfires. These remarks come on the heels of Ryan Zinke pushing dangerous and false rhetoric on California’s wildfires.

In response, Sierra Club Associate Legislative Director Kirin Kennedy released the following statement:

“Our thoughts remain with the families who are still searching for and have lost loved ones, who have lost their homes, and who have seen their community’s devastated by the wildfires throughout California. If Ryan Zinke or Sonny Perdue bothered to read the FY 2018 Omnibus bill, they would see that they already have the authority they called for today. Instead, they remain focused on trying to assign blame rather than help those in need. Now is not the time for partisanship, it’s a time to help those suffering.”
