Birmingham, ALA. –  Today, it was announced that EPA Region 4 Director Trey Glenn has been indicted by an Alabama grand jury for allegedly facilitating violations of the Alabama Ethics Act.

Glenn was indicted with Scott Phillips, former chair of the Alabama Environmental Management Commission, and his partner at consulting firm Southeast Engineering & Consulting. The firm helped Balch & Bingham and one of its clients, Drummond Co. to convince residents of the 35th Avenue neighborhood of north Birmingham, a low-income and historically African American community, that it was against their interest to have lead, arsenic and other garbage cleaned up in their neighborhoods. Drummond executive David Roberson was convicted this summer for bribing Alabama state representative Oliver Robinson as part of that effort.

In Response, Alabama Sierra Club Beyond Coal Campaign Representative Stephen Stetson released the following statement:

“It’s no surprise Trey Glenn and his corrupt past were welcome at the EPA by Scott Pruitt and Andrew Wheeler. Glenn and Phillips were doing the bidding of a huge coal company, helping a dirty industry make money at the expense of the health and safety of all of us in the Southeast.

“This culture of corruption can’t be tolerated, and Wheeler should take immediate action to remove Glenn from his post at the EPA.”
