Detroit, MI -- Democrat Gretchen Whitmer has won her campaign to become Michigan’s next governor. Whitmer campaigned on protecting Michigan’s communities and ensuring everyone has access to clean, safe drinking water. The Michigan Sierra PAC imbedded a staff on the Whitmer campaign as a part of its Victory Corps program and Michigan Sierra Club Independent Action PAC ran a direct mail effort in support of her candidacy.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:

“In electing Gretchen Whitmer, Michiganders voted to protect its Great Lakes and for clean energy jobs, and safe, clean drinking water for all. We look forward to working with her to make this vision a reality.”

In response, Sierra Club Michigan Conservation Chair David Holtz released the following statement:

“Today, the Great Lakes State can begin to reclaim its brand and its values. In electing Gretchen Whitmer, voters said no to a bean-counter mentality that leaves communities and families at risk from toxic water and rejected deals with Big Oil that will put our Great Lakes at extraordinary risk.”
