MILWAUKEE, WI -- Today, Scott Walker became the first Gubernatorial candidate to be added the list of candidates the Sierra Club is working to oust as part of its “Fossil Fools 2018” campaign. “Fossil Fools” is an aggressive midterm electoral ad campaign, launched earlier this month by the Sierra Club Political Committee, targeting over a dozen incumbent Republicans and candidates for defeat.
Walker and the other “Fossil Fools” have made their allegiance to corporate polluters clear by working repeatedly against climate action and clean air and water protections. Scott Walker has prioritized megadonor corporations over his own constituents, and, as governor, his policy of cutting funding for the agencies that protect our health and the environment has contributed to a weakening of Wisconsin’s environmental legacy.
“Scott Walker acts day in and day out to help corporate polluters instead of the people of Wisconsin, allowing polluters to defile clean air and water with impunity while ignoring the climate crisis,” said Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune. “Fortunately, voters have an opportunity to bar this Fossil Fool from the Governor’s office in November and elect leaders like Tony Evers who will boldly rewrite the rules of the economy so it works for our families, the middle class, and our kids again.”

The Fossil Fools website is accompanied by an aggressive social media and digital ad buy nationwide in the Fossil Fools’ states, including Wisconsin, informing their constituents of how frequently these candidates work with polluters instead of families and our kids.
“Our aggressive ad campaign will make clear to the people of Wiscon that Scott Walker is a Fossil Fool who will do anything to help polluters instead of his constituents,” said Bill Davis, Chapter Director of the Sierra Club - John Muir Chapter. “There’s more to come, so stay tuned as the 2018 midterms approach.”
As part of the Sierra Club Political Committee’s ongoing 2018 Fossil Fools campaign, additional, targeted ad buys will be announced in the future.
The worst of the Fossil Fools up for election to the Senate in November 2018 are Ted Cruz (TX), Dean Heller (NV), and Rick Scott (FL).
In the House, the list includes Representatives Barbara Comstock (VA-10), Dana Rohrabacher (CA-48), Tom McClintock (CA-04), Steve Knight (CA-25), David Brat (VA-07), Mike Coffman (CO-06), Peter Roskam (IL-06), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (WA-05), Will Hurd (TX-23), Fred Upton (MI-06), and Randy Hultgren (IL-14).
