WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing came to a close. During a tense second day of questioning, Kavanaugh’s calculated exterior started to crack, revealing some of his most extreme views -- including that he considers contraceptives to be “abortion-inducing drugs.”  Documents emerged raising the possibility that Judge Kavanaugh previously lied under oath on more than one occasion. Nearly 90 percent of Kavanaugh’s record from his time in the George W. Bush White House has not yet been released.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:

"Despite Senate Republicans tripping over themselves to cover-up his record and distort his views, the past four days confirmed that Brett Kavanaugh is the extremist judge we all believed him to be. Throughout his time before the Judiciary Committee, Kavanaugh may have tried to stay ‘three zip codes’ away from anything resembling a clear or direct answer, but his archaic interpretation of the law reveal him to be dangerous to the health, communities, and rights of all people who live in the United States.

“A vote for Kavanaugh is a vote against women, immigrants, people of color, the LGBTQ community, voting rights, healthcare, clean air and water, and the core principle of a fair and unbiased Supreme Court. Kavanaugh has the lowest approval rating of any Supreme Court nominee in decades, so if Senators want to continue to say that they represent the people, they will vote against Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination.”
