Washington, DC -- This weekend, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford publicly came forward with allegations of sexual violence by Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh. Ford has also said she is willing to testify about her experiences before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:

“Brett Kavanaugh’s extreme record is already disqualifying for a lifetime position on the Supreme Court, but these serious allegations demand the Senate proceedings immediately stop until the investigation is completed. Dr. Christine Blasey Ford never sought to publicly share her story with the world, yet she was forced to go above and beyond what should be asked of any victim. She deserves support and to be heard on her terms, not those demanded by extremist politicians only interested in advancing the dangerous agenda they share with Brett Kavanaugh. The disgraceful response by Senate Republicans further proves they are trying to rush a Constitutionally-required confirmation process before the full truth is heard. We already know Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination must be rejected for being a threat to women, to our health, and to our communities, and if these allegations are proven true, he shouldn’t serve on any court -- let alone the highest in the land.”
