COLUMBUS, OH -- Today, AEP Ohio filed plans for the single largest clean energy development in Ohio history - at least 900 megawatts of new wind and solar generation, would more than double the amount of utility scale clean energy in the state.
In response Neil Waggoner, Campaign Representative for Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal Campaign in Ohio, released the following statement:
“Customers across Ohio have been asking for more renewable energy for years and we are pleased AEP is responding to that demand with a robust amount of renewable energy. This is one of the reasons Sierra Club was part of the settlement in late 2015 where AEP agreed to develop to this plan.
“Ohio no longer needs to rely on dirty and expensive coal, oil, nuclear, and fracked gas for energy. Clean, renewable energy will lower electricity bills and provide good, family sustaining new jobs. An energy mix of wind, solar, energy efficiency, demand response, and battery storage is the right path toward a clean and sustainable future.
“We are excited about AEP’s filing and look forward to the announcement of individual projects.”
