WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today more than a dozen leading forest scientists and experts submitted a letter to Congress warning Farm Bill conferees of dangers inherent in logging provisions included in the House version of the bill.
In response, Kirin Kennedy, associate legislative director for lands and water at Sierra Club issued the following statement.
“Congressional representatives should heed the advice of forest experts instead of caving to logging industry interests. Our communities, economies, and climate depend on a dedication to following sound science. Conferees should look to the Senate version of the legislation and toward a final farm bill without destructive logging provisions that would do nothing to protect homes from wildfires, and might even lead to greater destruction.”
