Washington, DC -- Today, Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, who is facing numerous investigations, announced that his Department will no longer require fossil fuel companies to pay into environmental restoration funds which offset development on public lands.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:

“The claim that Donald Trump and Ryan Zinke ever cared about our public lands is a myth of epic proportions. In reality, Trump and Zinke view the lands that belong to the public as yet another opportunity to enrich their friends in the fossil fuel industry, including Halliburton, whose chair is mired in a business deal with Zinke. But make no mistake, the Sierra Club and the American people will fight any sell-off and destruction of our public lands every step of the way.”
