Today, the Washington Post reported that Scott Pruitt used the largest EPA security detail in history - funded by taxpayer dollars - to run errands for him, including going lotion shopping and picking up his dry cleaning.

Let’s review some key facts:

  • Pruitt’s security details is two times larger than any other security detail in EPA history. Pruitt justified this - along with his expense of taxpayer dollars on first-class travel - by claiming it was for safety purposes. He nonetheless flew coach when he was paying.
  • Pruitt previously demanded his security detail use lights and sirens to get to a French restaurant on time.

This is far from the first time Pruitt has used taxpayer resources in an attempt to fatten his pockets and live in luxury.

“Pruitt’s embarrassing corruption has reached a new low, as he clearly is trying to live like the rich and famous on the taxpayer’s dime. The massive security detail he claims to so desperately need isn’t just rushing him through red lights to a French restaurant -- it’s doing his shopping and picking up his laundry and specialty lotions. Living in the swamp may be bad for Pruitt’s skin, but no excuses can explain his scandals and no amount of lotion can smooth things over: Pruitt has no one to blame but himself and he should be fired immediately.” -- Melinda Pierce, Legislative Director, Sierra Club
