Washington, DC -- Today, Donald Trump announced that he is ignoring the Clean Air Act to allow the year-round sale of 15-percent ethanol blends in gasoline. The Clean Air Act prevents the sale of ethanol blends above 10-percent in the summer months due to the air pollution caused by its use. According to experts, permitting the proportion of ethanol in gasoline year-round will only lead to more ozone pollution that will cause more smog in our communities. Ground-level ozone impairs lung functioning and contributes to increased incidences of asthma and other lung diseases, especially among children and the elderly.

In response, Sierra Club Clean Transportation For All Associate Director Andrew Linhardt released the following statement:

“By mandating the expansion of ethanol to 15-percent year-round, Donald Trump is once again ignoring Americans’ health and safety. Rather than doubling down on ethanol, we must be investing in truly clean sources like electric vehicles and zero emission buses to fuel our transportation needs.”
