WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, Scott Pruitt’s EPA submitted a controversial proposal to the White House aimed at requiring all scientific studies the EPA uses for setting safeguards to be peer-reviewed and make their raw data publicly available.
While the proposal did not include a specific description of the safeguards, Scott Pruitt announced plans last month for a new scientific transparency policy that would essentially circumvent the legislative process and enact House Science Chairman Lamar Smith’s legislation through administrative action.
In response, Sierra Club Climate Policy Director Liz Perera released the following statement:
“Scott Pruitt is apparently joining Congressman Lamar Smith’s attack on science. By limiting the EPA's access to data that is not already public, Scott Pruitt will be deliberately interfering with the Agency’s ability to make decisions on public health based on the best available science.
“Scott Pruitt may not be familiar with how facts and science work, but as EPA Administrator he has an obligation to protect the health of Americans and our communities. It’s clear that Scott Pruitt is unfit to be EPA Administrator, and Donald Trump must fire him immediately.”
