Fort Wayne, IN - Yesterday, over a dozen Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) customers protested through dance to send a message that I&M isn’t as green as they claim to be. Through a flash mob, advocates expressed that they want a future of 100% renewable energy and energy efficiency.

The Earth Day event at Eagle Marsh provided children’s educational activities, free red oaks, and blue vervain seeds to celebrate Earth Day. While all celebrated the environment, the event was sponsored by Indiana Michigan Power.

Megan Anderson, Indiana Organizing Representative for Sierra Club’s Beyond Coal Campaign:

“While I&M touts an image that they are “green” and 50% carbon free, the reality is that less than 10% of our power comes from renewable energy. I&M lobbied successfully to gut our state’s energy efficiency and rooftop solar policies, and they operate one of the country’s largest super polluters. I&M executives now say they anticipate phasing out the Rockport coal plant by 2028. We want to ensure they follow through with a plan that ends coal burning, and transitions to 100% renewable energy and energy efficiency, combined with the latest energy storage technology, not fracked gas.”
