Background Information:

A few days ago, Trump signed a $1.6 billion omnibus spending bill that funds the construction of 33 new miles of border walls, with no protections or renewed status for Dreamers. Construction begins this month and will add to the over 650 miles of barriers dividing communities, running through public lands and natural refuges, while disrupting wildlife migration patterns.

Because of a provision in the Real ID Act, the border wall is entirely absent of public comment periods or environmental impact assessments, depriving borderland communities of wildlife protections and clean air and water safeguards. These safeguards are guaranteed to the rest of the country. The Sierra Club has appealed a decision from a federal judge that says DHS has the power to waive these laws.

Join us for a conversation on the impacts of the border wall on the human and natural landscape. We’d love to hear from you in advance of the forum, and welcome you to submit your questions in advance.
