Washington, DC -- Today, Bloomberg is reporting that Scott Pruitt has sided with Ford and the Auto Alliance in undoing the clean car standards despite the fact that they could limit global warming pollution by 6 billion tons, save consumers $1.7 trillion dollars in fuel costs, and reduce oil consumption by up to 4 million barrels every day. Ford stood next to President Obama in support of these standards when he first established them, but reversed their position after Trump came into power.

The final determination on the future of the standards is expected next week.

In response, Sierra Club Deputy Director for Clean Transportation Andrew Linhardt released the following statement:

“It’s a surprise to no one that Pruitt would side with Ford and the Auto Alliance to weaken widely-supported standards that helps drive down pollution and cuts the cost for Americans at the pump. After all, this is an Administrator and an administration that focuses solely on doing what’s best for corporate polluters, not the American people.”
