A new report released today by Physicians for Social Responsibility and Concerned Health Professionals of New York further highlights the serious threat fracking poses to public health, noting that, “our examination…uncovered no evidence that fracking can be practiced in a manner that does not threaten human health.”
Hydraulic fracturing (fracking) involves injecting chemicals into the ground to extract gas. Communities have long reported health impacts as a result of nearby fracking operations, but this report paints a troubling picture of the full extent of the risks to families and workers.
In response, Sierra Club Beyond Dirty Fuels Campaign Director Kelly Martin released the following statement:
“This horrifying report further confirms what communities have been saying for years: despite industry spin, fracking poses unacceptable threats to our families and communities. The evidence is impossible to ignore. We must reject dirty, dangerous fracked gas projects that put our health and our climate at risk.”
