WASHINGTON, D.C. -- This morning, Politico reported on a series of 2005 Oklahoma talk radio interviews in which Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt dismissed evolution as unproven, denounced gun control measures, voiced islamophobic statements, and advocated for a constitutional convention to ban abortion and same-sex marriage.

In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:

“Scott Pruitt’s disturbing comments and his refusal to acknowledge scientific evidence show he is unfit to lead an agency that is charged with using the best science available to protect every community and every person in America. Pruitt’s disregard for the people he so casually casts aside in these unearthed interviews is clear in his words and his actions as EPA Administrator. While flying first class on the taxpayer dime, Pruitt is taking steps at the EPA to allow more dangerous pollution in every community -- especially in marginalized communities already hit hardest by environmental injustice. Pruitt makes clear that he doesn’t care about the health of our families and he doesn’t care about the values of equality and inclusion that are core to our country. He shouldn’t be in office a day longer.”
