WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Supreme Court of the United States announced this morning that it would push a decision on DACA back to the lower courts. In the meantime, DACA recipients can continue to apply to renew their status.
In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:
"The Supreme Court reminded the Trump Administration this morning that it is not above the law and must follow long-standing rules. Dreamers across the country now have some temporary stability as lower courts rule on the issues at hand, but too much uncertainty remains.
“Today’s ruling is also a reminder that Trump created this crisis single-handedly and is to blame for the lack of a solution. Even as the Trump Administration continues to pile up court losses over its egregious attacks on immigrants, the health of our communities, clean air and water and beyond, there is an urgent need to protect the hundreds of thousands of Dreamers and other immigrants Trump’s hateful agenda is threatening. A permanent legislative solution must be reached so the futures of these young people are not part of a political game and so that families are not torn apart.”
