OAKLAND, CA -- On Wednesday, 17 people were killed at a mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in Parkland, Florida.
In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:
"The Sierra Club joins those around the nation and the globe in mourning those lost in this devastating tragedy in Florida. Hatred and gun violence have threatened our communities and our country for far too long. No child in any community should ever go to school and worry about never returning home. We believe that all people deserve a healthy planet with clean air and water, a stable climate, and safe communities. That's why the Sierra Club joins the overwhelming majority of the public that knows we cannot and should not become numb to violence that could be prevented with simple, common sense gun control measures.”
