Sierra Club Responds to Pruitt's Visit to New Hampshire

Concord, N.H.--United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt visited New Hampshire today without a public notice.  Instead, a note describing the visit in an article in the Washington Post on Monday served as notification.

The deliberate secrecy and avoidance of the public is standard practice by Pruitt who is generally acknowledged as a servant to the fossil fuel industry, not public health or environmental well being. Oddly enough, the Washington Post article highlighted Pruitt's taxpayer-funded globetrotting.

New Hampshire Chapter Director of the Sierra Club, Catherine M. Corkery said in response:

"It is unfortunate that Mr. Pruitt choose to avoid the public during his February visit to New Hampshire. The secret visit is a symptom of the transformation of the federal agency that is suppose to protect our health to one that will protect and serve polluters. If the New Hampshire Chapter of the Sierra Club could have met with Pruitt, we would have informed him of our state's strong legacy of support for clean air protections and the science-based evidence of health impacts from pollution sources beyond our borders. Further, New Hampshire Sierra Club would have provided copious documentation demonstrating that scientific health based standards for pollution on the federal level keeps vulnerable populations safe in all states."
