Sierra Club: Trump’s Immigration Outline is A Xenophobe’s Wish List
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Last night, Donald Trump released an outline for his proposed legislation on immigration.
In response, Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune released the following statement:
"This dangerous proposal is not a starting point for a negotiation, it is a xenophobe’s wish list that should be rejected by anyone who respects the welcoming values our country promises to uphold. Trump alone created this crisis when he cancelled DACA and endangered 800,000 youth. Now, he is ransoming their future in exchange for more deportations, billions for a destructive, pointless border wall, and an end to immigration programs that support families and make our country more diverse and inclusive. That is not negotiating, it is cowardice driven by hate that will destroy lives and communities only in service of a racist and divisive agenda.
“No community or family should be sacrificed by politicians in Washington. It is well past time to pass a clean Dream Act while preserving family migration, diversity visas, and Temporary Protected Status and by rejecting any attempts to use borderlands communities or a multi- billion dollar border wall boondoggle as a bargaining chip. Our country is about welcoming families, not pitting them against each other. Members of Congress who recognize that must act now.”
