WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Today, the Supreme Court heard opening arguments in the Husted v. APRI case, which is seeking to illegally purge Ohio voting rolls. This case stands to set a nationwide precedent for illegal voter roll purging and voter suppression.
In response, Sierra Club Democracy Program Director Courtney Hight released the following statement:
“The importance of this case cannot be understated. Voting and voting rights are what make our democracy great and ensure that we can continue to protect our communities, air, and water. The continued attempts at voter suppression and voter disenfranchisement are nothing short of an insult to everything our country stands for. The Sierra Club is committed to continuing to fight for the voting rights of all Americans and working with our allies to protect the cornerstone of our democracy.”
