PJM Stakeholders Reject Proposals to Increase Consumer Costs

WASHINGTON DC – PJM's Markets & Reliability Committee (MRC) voted today to reject proposals from both PJM and PJM’s Independent Market Monitor (IMM) that would have raised consumer costs and increased barriers to clean energy.  The proposals would have been a set back to clean energy projects many PJM states are already committed to developing.

In response, Mark Kresowik Eastern Region Deputy Director of the Sierra Club issued the following statement:

Electric system stakeholders in the Mid-Atlantic and parts of the Midwest have resoundingly rejected proposals to raise prices and limit clean energy today, demonstrating once again that families and businesses overwhelming want more wind and solar projects that deliver jobs, stable energy costs, and a healthy climate.  The PJM Board and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission must respect this vote and stop any attempt to unjustly and unreasonably increase consumer costs when states exercise their rights to deliver the clean energy consumers want.
